In 1997, while shoveling for gold from our black sand claim which runs north and south on the beach in front of our house, the flat stones were getting in the way. We had to think of something to do with them so came up with making stone pots but as they were too cumbersome to move around, we started making stone mats.

We now have a niche worldwide export market and our mats are known, not only as the original but also the best.
